Primary sources first

Every rule we describe (overtime thresholds, rounding, breaks, recordkeeping) is taken from primary sources: the Fair Labor Standards Act and its regulations in 29 CFR, U.S. Department of Labor fact sheets, and state labor agencies and statutes. We link to those sources on the page so you can check them.

Tested calculations

Worked examples in our guides are checked against the same engine that powers the calculators. That engine has an automated test suite covering weekly and biweekly overtime, California daily and seventh-day rules, rounding, paid leave, holidays, split and overnight shifts, and carry-in hours for split workweeks. A change that breaks a test does not ship.

How content is written

Guides are written and edited by the CountCrunch team. We use software tools, including AI writing assistants, to help with drafting and proofreading. A person checks every factual statement against its source and every example against the calculator before publishing.

Updates

We review the guides at least once a year and whenever federal or state rules change. Each guide shows the date it was last updated.

Independence

Advertisers have no say in what we publish. We do not accept payment for placement in our guides.

Corrections

If you find an error, please tell us. We correct confirmed errors promptly and note significant corrections on the page and in the changelog.
